The joint project EthaNa successfully completed

After 5 successful project years, the final project meeting took place in november 2022 at the Fraunhofer CBP in Leuna.

Together with 10 project partners and the project sponsor, the Fachagentur Nachwachsende Rohstoffe (FNR), the EthaNa® pilot plant was visited, the results of the EthaNa project were discussed and ideas for joint, future collaborations were collected. With the EthaNa process, a major step towards the bioeconomy and alternative processing methods for integration into a rapeseed biorefinery could be achieved to enable significantly improved utilisation of the value-added potential of rapeseed.

B+B receives funding for digitalisation processes

Our company is interested in continuously improving the quality of the services we offer. This also includes the continuous optimisation of processes. In this context, we make use of digitalisation. Specifically, we have invested in location-independent working methods (hardware and software) in the project "Digitalisation of business processes". We receive financial support for the project from Investitionsbank Sachsen-Anhalt. It supports the project as part of the "Saxony-Anhalt DIGITAL INNOVATION" funding programme, which is financed by the European Regional Development Fund.

R&D state project for wet-milling of de-hulled rapeseed

As part of a project funded by the Investment Bank of Saxony-Anhalt and the European Regional Development Fund, B+B Engineering GmbH is starting a new research and development project together with its cooperation partner AVA - Anhaltinische Verfahrens- und Anlagentechnik GmbH from Magdeburg.

The project is designed as a short-term R&D project. It is supported by funding from the REACT-EU program as part of the Union's response to the COVID-19 pandemic and will run until December 2022.

The scientific and technical work objectives seek to develop and investigate a novel process approach to break down the oily cells in dehulled canola seed. The innovative approach as a contribution to the canola biorefinery is to use the canola seeds, which have been separated from the hulls to the greatest possible extent, for the production of higher-value raw and valuable materials and thus to extract further components such as proteins, glucosinolates, sinapine and other minor components from the canola in addition to the classic oil production.

Within the scope of a cooperation between the two companies since 2010, the aim is to build a plant for the continuous dehulling of rapeseed and a subsequent ethanolic extraction. B+B Engineering is contributing its expertise in oleochemical processes and extraction plants, while AVA is contributing its process engineering know-how in terms of plant construction and solids process technology.

Joint project EthaNa - Construction of the pilot plant is progressing smoothly

In September 2017, B+B launched the "EthaNa" joint project together with the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical-Biotechnological Processes (CBP) in Leuna and 10 partners to develop an innovative process for the mild, alcoholic extraction of rapeseed. The alternative processing line should be integrable into conventional oil mills.

The first construction phase of the EthaNa pilot plant, rapeseed dehulling, was successfully commissioned in April 2019. The ethanolic direct extraction and desolventizing, are currently being installed and will be commissioned in October 2020.

Patents for the EthaNa process have been granted in Canada and the USA.

Further information on this project can be found here.

ADM Wild - EPCM Project Flavor Production

B+B Engineering was commissioned by ADM WILD Europe GmbH & Co.KG as EPCM contractor.

The aim of the project is to increase the capacity of the flavor production.

B+B Engineering provides the EPCM services for the phases of project preparation, planning, procurement, execution as well as commissioning and acceptance of the plants.

    Amino Frellstedt - Media supply

B+B is planning the extension of the steam supply and the complete media distribution for a plant extension at Amino GmbH, Frellstedt.

Solvay Genthin - Planning exhaust air concept

B+B Engineering has received an order from Solvay in Genthin to restructure the exhaust air concept for production reactors.

Crude oil filtration and lecithin drying put into operation

B+B Engineering has delivered two plants for crude oil filtration and lecithin drying for the production of high-quality lecithin for the food sector in Hungary and Austria.

    Collaborative Project "EthaNa"

In September 2017, B + B launched the collaborative project "EthaNa" together with the Fraunhofer Institute for Chemical-Biotechnological Processes (CBP) in Leuna and 10 partners to develop an innovative process for the alcoholic extraction of oilseed rape. EthaNa stands for ethanolic native extraction peeled rapeseed, on which the process concept is based. The alternative treatment line should be able to be integrated into conventional oil mills. In the project, which runs until mid-2021, the researchers want to assess the technical, economic and ecological parameters on a pilot scale. Further information can be found via this link.
